How far can we go ?

"I suppose that if we would reach the edge of the world, we would find there somebody who is going beyond."

Why science should be retold (3).

The time when we will no longer understand anything might be coming soon.

If we compare how the world looked like in 1900 and in 2000 we will agree almost instantly with the statement above.

A century lasts one hundred years. From a historical perspective this is not much but, actually, everything depends on the metamorphosis that occurs during this period. Sociologists claim that the 20th Century has been the most important in the last 50,000 years, due to the changes brought about by the evolution of science and technology.

On the other hand, if we will have a look into the future, the 20th Century will seem only a little joke to us, given that several things, some of them quite unbelievable, look like coming ahead. And those things might be able to completely change both us and the relationship we have with the surrounding universe, as well.

Cloning, artificialy created living organisms, the fusion between human nature and machines, artificial intelligence, teleportation, the colonization of outer space, the discovery of new dimensions, new sources of energy,...

At present, there are at least four fields of research which look as if they are ready to shatter all our existential certainties:
-          quantum physics,
-          biotechnology and nanotechnology,
-          information technology.

What are these sciences telling us ?

Quantum physics tells us that the Surrounding World is not at all what it seems to be.
(But how is it, really ?)

Biotechnology and nanotechnology tell us that the Substance can be manipulated in any way.
(Do they really mean anyway” ?)

Information technology tells us that, in the very near future, Calculation and Communication will have no more limits
(Does it mean that we will be able to learn and share everything ?)

And finally, what will be the outcome of all these ?

Will we discover new Universes ?

Will we create new beings and structures (as God did) ?

Will we all be interconnected in a kind of global intelligence ? Or will we merge with computers to create a new species ? Or will we be able to calculate the future?
